Day 8 of my excursion was the last one before head

Day 8 of my excursion was the last one before heading “back to life, back to reality”. Turns out, it was also @johnsplithoff ‘s final date for his East coast tour. Rekindling my love for making music was a running theme through this excursion, so it seemed perfect to end it seeing a guy whose music more or less became the soundtrack to the last year of my life. I tinkered with hanging around afterwards and telling him about how his music had brought me back to my first true passion this year (well…that and a girl…but nobody needs to hear that story), but it seemed more fitting to end my excursion singing “Sing to You” with him and a couple hundred of his most devoted fans.

Days 5-7 of my excursion brought me to a beautiful private hideaway on Lake Norman. My hope was that some alone time and a change of scenery would bring some renewed musical inspiration that I’d been lacking recently. I finished a song I’d been struggling to finish and got well into two new ones, so I’m calling this a success!

Found an Irish pub right at ground zero. Wonderful conversation with the staff who shared a scrap book. Having stood there right before walking in for this drink, there’s just no words. The energy of what that day caused is very real even now.

Welp....until these crazy migraines let up and I can finally get back out into the world and socialize, I guess I'll just cook more 🫤. Tuscan chicken and pasta... it's what's for dinner! 😁

Some things you just don't bother adding to your b

Some things you just don't bother adding to your bucket list because it's already clear they'll never ever happen. These dudes were recording the tracks for their first album about an hour from where I was going to high school…and every Friday after school, I'd hit Star Records on the East side of San Jose to pick up all the new 12" singles like Little Walter, Baby Doll and It Never Rains in Southern California. I was in LA pursuing my own musical dreams when they decided to call it quits in '97, but many more hits came before then including Anniversary, Let's Get Down and Feels Good. More than 25 years have passed since these brothers toured or recorded together, so there was really no reason to think it would ever happen. But now, it is!

Tonight I'm in Durham, NC…the complete opposite end of the country from where this all started in the Bay Area of California. It's a no phone event, so I won't get to capture any of those magic moments I love sharing the day after a concert, but this will allow everyone there to just vibe like it was the 90s all over again. The Sons of Soul are finally back, and this one's gonna be special, y'all!! 🎶🤙💜
